In the times of occupation she helped the Jewish community; during the occupation she worked in Zegota (Council for Aid to Jews); she was known among Jews as Jankowa 'Cioteczka'('Auntie'); initially, at the end of 1939, she and her husband used in the underground the surname Bogon; then, she used the name Joanna Chojnacka, later (to the outbreak of the uprising) as Joanna Gralczyk; currently she lives in Lodz, Srebrzysta Street No. 75.
