  • author's first drawing teacher during the occupation; after the Warsaw Uprising's failure he hid together with his wife, a famous pianist, and six other people in Warsaw in a basement hideout prepared and camouflaged before; at the beginning of 1945 the hideout was given away by smoke leaking from the burning oven; Germans discovered the hideout effortlessly thanks to that; from then on they vanished into the blue.
