  • For the first years of its existence the ghetto still had a functioning trolley line. In the Aryan part of the city the trip looked as following: either the passengers would simply not pay for their tickets, or the same ticket would be used by several people - stepping of the tram, the passenger would give his ticket to the conductor, who than passed it on to the next person.
This system did not exist in the ghetto, where the Polish conductors showed no solidarity with the Jews.

  • Written between 1952 and 1954, the book is a key work documenting the Warsaw ghetto from its inception to its final days.
How did life continue in the Warsaw ghetto? What organizations took - or should have taken - care of its inhabitants? How did so many survive in such terrible isolation? In answering those questions Michel Mazor details the vanishing of a city.
The book is a study of the social and political life of the Warsaw ghetto.
