In December 1942 he lived in a rented room in a boarding house in Wspolna Street in Warsaw. He spent nights at the Machajs' house at Gormoslaska Street No. 3. He transported illegal materials to the ghetto as a courier. He was in touch with leaders of the Polish underground. When he realised that Machaj was an informer he tried to kill him. Arrested by the Gestapo with Zoska Kersz - at a Polish smuggler's who took Zoska's brother out of a labour camp, he managed to get out thanks to his calmness and good papers.
