  • The graduate of the Jewish a seminar for teachers in Vilna. At the beginning of war she worked as a children's common room teacher in Warsaw. There she met and made friends with Basia Temkin-Berman who met her in the sanatorium in Falenica in the summer of 1941. Basia Temkin-Berman described her as a very interesting person, a talented director who also wrote a lot for children. To the sanatorium she arrived with a group of children from the bursary 'Nasz Ul' ('Our hive'), which was liquidated after the ghetto was closed. Although Basia Temkin-Berman considered her to be very worthy and interesting person who did a lot for her tutees for some reasons she was not liked by the management of the sanatorium. Often she was simply ignored. After some time she sent a very sad letter in which she wrote that she was ill and had had a breakdown. Shortly after Basia Temkin-Berman was informed that Roza was sent for treatment to Zofiowka (sanatorium for mentally ill patients in Otwock) where she probably was killed.

  • The author started to write on 5 January 1944, and the last entry is dated 14 January 1945. The diary was written in ten, common, chequered school notebooks. Written irregularly. Bermanowa probably took a pen in her hand only when she either found the time or when she felt strong enough. Successive entries, dated scrupulously, written in Polish, were written in occupied Warsaw ('in hiding'), then in occupied ('free') capital and in a number of places near Warsaw (again 'on the Aryan papers'). The first event described took place during the Polish-German War of 1939, the latest - three days before the liberation of Warsaw (17 January 1945).
