  • David approaches the center of Skolimow. He wants to buy some food. There are lots of people on the steets and they are panicking, because no one knows what is really happening. People spread all sorts of rumours, they are scared and agressive. Two men attack David, because they hear his foreign accent, they think that he is a German. Only, when he shows his Polish passport and says that he is here on holidays in Piotr Wasilewski's cottage, they let him go. David hardly manages to buy any food because the stores are nearly empty.
He can see black smoke above Warsaw and he knows that the city is burning. He panics, he worries about himself, his wife, child, his brother Peter, who stayed in Warsaw and his wife's relatives. He knows that he can't afford this panic, beacuse his family needs him.
