  • Cigarette vendor ('papierosiarz') from the Three Crosses' Square (Plac Trzech Krzyzy), his buckteeth explained his nickname. His parents died of typhus and sister was deported to Treblinka. Zabal and his younger brother crossed to the 'Aryan side' and they sang in yards. Zabal spent nights in Skaryszewski Park. Together with other boys he smuggled clothes from the ghetto going there with detail workers. The uprising caught him in the ghetto, he hides in a bunker, wanders with a group of Jews in sewers and leaves although he has no money for Polish guides. Togeher with other boys he works in plots at Saska Kepa. Then he lands up in the orphanage at Wolska Street. After a month he has to escape because he is suspected to be a Jew. He sells cigarettes at the Three Crosses' Square (Plac Trzech Krzyzy). In November 1943 he moves with three other boys to trade near the Eastern Railway Station (Dworzec Wschodni). In winter of 1944 he sells theatre tickets. Because of provocations of young blackmailers (szmalcownik) he is put to Mrs Lodzia in March 1944. On ZKN (Jewish National Committee) request he writes down his experiences from the ghetto uprising. In the summer of 1944 he works by transporting with his cart belongings of people escaping from Praga district. He survived the war. He lives in Canada.
