  • His father was a merchant and the owner of a leather factory. Arie attended a private Hebrew school. In 1939 he was going to leave for Palestine, but his colleagues from Haszomer Hacair persuaded him to stay in Warsaw. In the first months of the war he went to Lodz, Lvov and Vilna to deal with organisational matters. In Vilna he worked undercover for a year for the organisation - together with other Jewish activists he hid in a convent of Benedictine nuns. At the beginning of 1942 he returned to Warsaw; in the Summer of 1942 he organised self-defense groups in Silesian ghettos. In Warsaw, at the 'Aryan side' he lived with his sister Guta at Marszalkowska Street. He was the representative of Jewish underground in the contacts with the Home Army (Armia Krajowa); he was involved in buying weapon for the ghetto. In January 1943 he participated in the first fights in the ghetto, after several weeks he was arrested as a result of denunciation. Tortured, but did not confess to any activity; brought to Pawiak and then deported to the labour camp in Kaweczyn. After the action of Jewish Fighting Organization (ZOB) he returned to the ghetto. He participated in the uprising and died in the ZOB bunker at Mila Street.
