  • A middle-aged man. Before the Warsaw uprising he lived in Freta Street and worked in the sewage system. He fought in the Warsaw uprising from the very beginning. When the uprising headed for collapse, together with his three friends they prepared themselves a hideout in one of the side sewers. They entered it on the last day before the end of the uprising. After Zoliborz had surrendered, he found himself with the other insurgents in Pruszkow. The insurgents were normally sent to camps form there. Jozef managed to join one of the groups which the Germans sent to Warsaw in order to dig out everything that could be used.from the rubble and cellars. In November and December he helped the Jews who were hidden in a bunker by bringing them food. He died in December 1944, hit by a piece of shrapnel in the ruins of Warsaw.
