  • Bermanowie jadą do Warszawy niemieckim autem. Dojeżdżają do Włoch, na wszystkich ulicach panuje ruch, sklepy i restauracje są otwarte. Na rynku tysiące ludzi handluje ciuchami. Pierwszy raz od wielu miesięcy Bermanowie kupują gazety i jedzą śniadanie w kawiarni. Potem jadą EKD do Grodziska. odnajdują dom, w którym mieszkają Lubetkin, Cukierman (przeziębiony), Warman (właśnie wyszedł ze szpitala), Edelman, Borkowska-Zylbersztajn, Lukrec, Zylberg. Wieczorem na cześć Bermanów odbywa się uczta, są: sznytki, śledzie, galareta z nóżek, gęś pieczona, wódka, ajerkoniak, ciasteczka-krokiety, herbata i jabłka.
