Hirszfeld called it "hell on earth". Mortality rate was almost 100 per cent, the Home's personnel robbed the children of everything.

"A man of quite a great knowledge and good heart, but not resourceful" according to H.Makower, p. 87; J.Korczak considered him a "pest, panic-defeatist, oppositionist and negativist even psychiatric" who can be useful, but "among clean, disinfected children". Korczak did not respond to his bows, he believed, he should be fired immediately.
