Liza Jelen came from a prominent Hassid Warsaw family. She run away from the ghetto but typically Aryan appearance did not allow her to appear in the streets. She volunteered for the works in Germany. She worked in an out-of-the-way village for a farmer, she kept the house and slaved in the field. She was sure that if others were sent to the works, the Poles would suspect that she was Jews and they would denounce her immediately.
