  • During the war she was a midwife and collaborated with Zegota (Council for Aid to Jews). Together with Irena Sendlerowa she rescued Jewish children. She delivered births of hiding Jews and kept the babies at home. She also helped in organising documents and searched for Polish families which would accept Jewish children. She gave home to the few-months-old author and decided to bring her up.
