Together with a few neighbours from Franciszkanska Street No. 20 he hid in a shelter situated under a small annexe, which miracously survived after the Germans set fire to the street. Halina A. and other people, who returned after escaping from the Germans during the uprising, discovered a shelter under the annexe after Easter in 1943, where there were half-alive neighbours, including her relative. He lived, like the others, for many days without light and eating one lump of sugar a day.
