  • A Pole. Before the war he worked as a worker with a talented engineer, Klepfisz. During the war he became a rickshaw driver. He considered it an honour to be able to share the flat at Gornoslaska Street, No. 3. Michal lived in a two-room underground flat together with his family of four. The flat served as a meeting place for the Jewish underground, acquaintances often stayed for the night there. Stefan Machaj helped smuggle revolvers into the ghetto. But when a few leaks about hideouts on the "Aryan" side followed in succession, Wladka and Michal Klepfish started to suspect Machaj of being a collaborator: he stopped working, he had money, expensive clothes and food. After another leak at an address known only to Machaj, Celek makes efforts to liquidate the informer by the Polish underground. Eventually the Pole died killed by Germans, for whom he stopped working after written warnings.
