  • Młodzież z grupy teatralnej ŁZA zastanawia się nad zaniechaniem działalności. Ostatecznie postanowiono zawiesić przedstawienia. Panuje nastrój depresji i zniechęcenia. Prawie wszystkich członków grupy dotknęła śmierć lub choroba najbliższych. Zwłaszcza Romek jest zgorzkniały. Musi ciężko pracować, by wyżywić rodzinę. W przeciwieństwie do kolegów Tadek Szajer jest w znakomitym nastroju (jego ojciec jest asystentem komendanta Trzynastki). Tadek jest zawsze najedzony i wygląda b. dobrze. Jest zakochany w Mary i nieustannie czyni jej miłosne wyznania. Mary irytuje jego wymuskany wygląd i fakt, że zawsze każe się wozić rikszą.
