  • he escaped from the ghetto in 1942; he wandered around; two blackmailers ('szmalcownicy') told him to indicate rich Jews; he got accommodation and food for that; when he was not needed by enriched blackmailers any more he escaped; he wandered again as long as he met Kulas and he started to trade cigarettes at Three Crosses' Square; caught in a round-up in autumn 1943 he got to the transit camp in Litewska Street; he escaped from there, he was shaved and boys called him Golec; he felt like an adult, he did not want to sell cigarettes, he used to get drunk, demoralised younger colleagues; in the summer 1944 he claimed 1500 zl per month instead of 500 zl per month from the Jewish National Committee (ZKN); in order to teach him a lesson a drastic method was applied - he was threatened to be executed for blackmailing Jews - it worked.
