  • A young girl, she participated in friendly meetings in Oskar's and Heniek's room at Franciszkanska Street No. 20 in spring 1943. During the spring of 1943 she managed to pass to the 'Aryan side'. Wala and Halina Aszkenazy were the only members of their group of friends who survived the war. Halina met her in 1944 - it turned out that Wala, her sister and uncle starve while hiding on the 'Aryan side'. The woman who hid them turned out to be a thief and blackmailer. Both sisters recieved help from priest Kubacki in a basilica.

  • The author remembered that she was cheerful and witty. Wala's parents did not have the courage to pass to the 'Aryan side'. During the uprising her father, who was a chemist, saved several dozen people from poisonous gases which were spread by the Germans. Following his advice they put cloths soaked with urine to their noses (ammonia isolated their respiratory tracks).
